GAMES AND SPORTS

Games & Sports have been a vital component of JNVs to ensure all round development of students. The importance of sports and games in schools encompasses more than just the benefit of physical activity. It not only helps to improve academic performance but it is also a powerful tool for promoting leadership, team work skills and social cohesion. Games and Sports are encouraged in JNVs to develop fitness, psychomotor skills and fine tune motorskills with coordination, movement, strength, dexterity, grace, speed skills and to promote the spirit of cooperation and sportsman. Apart from the same, young talents are identified at an early stage and are helped to excel in their chosen field by specialized coaching. Further, Games and Sports also find healthy outlets for energy. This promotes a good rapport among students, teachers, parents and administration and show case talents of students for inspiration of others. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti organises various sports and games activities at school level, cluster level, Regional Level and National Level every year. Further Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is a state under School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and Navodaya National teams compete with other state teams in SGFI competitions.                                   

 

ANNUAL PLAN 2019-20

 

 

            Holistic education incorporates physical, mental and emotional growth along with psychic and spiritual growth. If this is true, sports take a very important position in a student's life. The sylvan and proactive environment could spoil the visorous reality of real life. Realizing this mantra, the sports activities in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is a routine one. Specialized and renowned coaches volunteer to visit the N.V.S. competitions are held monthly to exhibit and bring out abilities and talents. Not only that, regular PETs provide coaching in various games to compete with the national equals. Our schools compete at cluster, regional & national levels and have come up as a winner in many events. National level players too, are in the moulding. Consistent training would result in this great feat.

The National Standards for Physical Education indicate that a physically educated student:

 

  • 1. Demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.
  1. Applies involvement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
  2. Exhibits a physically active lifestyle.
  3. Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
  4. Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.
  5. Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
  6. Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
  •       Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has implemented a three-fold common sports programme for all Navodaya vidyalaya based on the objectives of physical education.Physical fitness for all students through regular exercises in the morning assembly (P.T.) Participation in at least one game/sport

    • Demonstrate proficiency and competence in fundamental skills, patterns, and movement forms in two self-selected lifetime sport and activity.

    • Understand, apply, and analyze movement concepts and principles to improve motor skills.
    3. Personal Fitness
    • Plan, achieve, and maintain a health-enhancing level of personal fitness.
    4. Responsible Behavior
    • Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity setting.                             
  • 5. Physically Active Lifestyle
    • Plan, describe, and implement a personal fitness and wellness program.
