In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986),GovernmentofIndiastarted Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). Presently the JNVs are spread in 27 States and 08 Union Territories. These are co-educational residential schools fullyfinanced and administered by Government of India through an autonomous organization.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Noida manages overall operations of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya  Pratapgarh. The school was established in 1999 and has affiliation from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). 

Pratapgarh (UP) district, lies between 25˚34' and 26˚ 11' latitudes while between 81˚19' and 82˚27' longitudes. Pratapgarh has risen in ranks as the top producer of Amla fruits. It is a multi-purpose fruit, extremely rich in vitamin C, helps cure gastro-intestinal disorders, is said to encourage youth and liveliness and is exported all over India and possibly over world in form of sweets and medicines. Pratapgarh is situated on the Allahabad-Faizabad main road at a distance of 39 km from Sultanpur and 61 Km from Allahabad. It is one of the older districts of Uttar Pradesh that came into existence in the year 1858. It is located at a height of 137 m from sea level.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Pratapgarh is located in Narayanpur,Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh.The school  campus covers around 30 acres of area. The building include the beautiful old Quad,the modern state of art infrastucture and the newly-refurbished student hostels and staff houses. The academic building including several classrooms are linked by a computer network.The widespread use of email and intranet system shrinks the distances and keeps staff,students and administration in quick and easy contact with one another.
