About JNV Ropar
As a part of New Education Policy, 1986, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sandhuan, Distt. Ropar (Punjab) was established by Sh.J.R.Kundal the then Deputy Commissioner, Ropar on 25.07.1988 with 40 students as the first batch for the academic year 1988-89. The Vidyalaya is managed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi: an autonomous organization working under the Department of School Education, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. Sh. Mohinder Singh Birgotra was the first Principal of the Vidyalaya.
Now the Vidyalaya has been functioning at the permanent site near Sandhuan Village for the last twenty eight years. It imparts education to the children from class VI to XII. The Vidyalaya has been affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi. It is a co-educational residential school. Presently it has the strength of 510 students i.e. 274 Girls and 236 Boys. Sanctioned Posts – Principal-1, Vice-Principal-1, PGT-11, TGT-10, Misc Category 06, Non Teaching Staff 17.If a child gets admission competing in the entrance test conducted by NV-Cell of CBSE, he/she will be provided boarding, lodging, uniform, text books, note books and daily use items on free of cost. However, a nominal Rs. 600/- p.m. is charged on account of Vikas Nidhi from boys of General Category Rs 1500/-whose parents are Govt. employee. The permanent site consists of 23 acres 06 Marlas of land which was donated by Gram Panchayat, Sandhuan on 18.04.1988. The Punjab Housing Board & CPWD has done the construction of the building.
