Art in Education

The quality education in Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalayas is ensured through Art in Education Programme by linking community and the school. Art in Education within the context of the Residential Culture of NVS becomes the parennial source of flow of creative energy. Art in Education becomes an opportunity for students to learn and understand, express and interpret life. It is the cooperative effort latent in a residential school system as well as in the Art in Education Programme which provides a springboard for the advancement of students towards creative dimensions of their personality. Integration through art is a way of achieving unity in midst of diversity of tradition through the Art in Education Programme. In addition to developing values of national Integration, a strong component of culture has been provided for NVS students by organizing different kinds of performing art, craft, visual art, music and theatre workshops each year in the Art in Education programmes. Training is given to students in the performing art, craft, music and visual art forms that are prevalent in their area. The artists and experts who are invited to train the children in a JNV generally belong to the same area in which the JNV is located. Thus, both students and experts share cultural affinities as well as knowledge of local practices and customs. Often, this has resulted in not only acquainting with the cultural heritage of their area but has also helped preserve that heritage through the activities of the children.

Arts in education is an expanding field of educational research and practice informed by investigations into learning through arts experiences. In this context, the arts can include performing art education ,literature and poetry, storytelling, visual arts education in film, craft, design, digital-arts, media and photography.

It is distinguished from art education by being not so much about teaching art , but focused on:

How to improve learning through the arts

How to transfer learning in and through the arts to other disciplines

Discovering and creating understanding of human behaviour, thinking, potential and learning especially through the close observation of works of art and various forms of involvement in arts experiences.

Visual arts-

Visual arts education is the area of learning that is based upon only the kind of arts that one can see, visual arts-drawing ,painting, sculpture ,printmaking and design in jewellery, pottery, weaving ,fabrics, etc. and design applied to more practical fields such as commercial graphics and home furnishings. Contemporary topics include photography, video, film, design and computer art. Art education may focus on students creating art, on learning to criticize or appreciate art, or some combination of the two.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Amravati has conducted the Art in Education Work Shop from 27.11.2018 to 04.12.2018 for eight days.

The theme of Workshop was to create awareness amongst the students about Modern Creative Art Form. The creations are made with reality one can see, visual arts-artistic shapes stressing simple and direct presentations of the subject of interest highlighting  Swachha Bharat – Swasth Bharat.

Art plays the crucial role in Society for innumerable reasons. It communicates across barriers of language, Caste, creed race, religion, Class and Culture. It elicits a visceral reaction which words alone often cannot. It reflects the collective psyche of a generation when it is not actually helping to shape it. Art gives aspirations to make innovation and create new things by making the practice of it.
